This season at NYFW I am going to try out blogging about the shows a little bit differently – usually I choose my top 5 looks and share them, along with the photos that I personally took…which means I spend most of the show struggling to get a good shot rather than actually enjoying the moment. However, this time around I decided to leave my big camera at home and let the professionals in the pit handle all of the photography. No longer being saddled down by the stress of trying to capture blog worthy photos, I was able to actually live in the moment at the shows (while still taking notes and live tweeting my favorite parts of each collection).
I love Lela Rose for her designs, but, I have to admit, I’m partly biased because she is from the great state of Texas. As you may know, I hail from there as well, and it is really encouraging to see Texas designers skyrocket and become so famous worldwide. Lela’s gowns have been seen on the red carpet, down the aisle, and in major magazines like Vogue. I hope one day I will be able to meet her and get a chance to hear her story of how she got her start. She is such an inspiration!
Anyway, about this NYFW fall/winter collection of hers… I tend to be a bigger fan of her fall collections because they’re a bit darker than her traditional floral spring patterns, but this was my favorite collection yet. I have been extremely into midi skirts, culottes, and matching sets. Not only did her collection feature all three, but it also incorporated gingham, fringe, and feathers (which are three of my favorite fashion details). I wish I had more gingham pieces in my closet, but I do have a crop top that I wear quite often. This collection inspired me to go out and buy more. I think its going to be a staple in our closets come fall and winter. I saw a bit more edge to this line, but the feminine silhouettes and A line skirts maintained the girly personality of Lela Rose. I love the feather maxi skirt and the mixture of all the fabrics in every look. Bravo, Lela! I love your work and hope you’re staying warm in NYC! I know we’re used to the brutal heat of Texas 😉
Trend Alets: Gingham, feather trimmings, and wide legged bottoms!
