Post Fashion Week Nostalgia #1
Sorry I am a little late getting to y’all about fashion week. I have been trying to decide how to go about writing about this season… Should I just create one REALLY big post or split it up into two? I think I am going to try to condense all my crazy thoughts and opinions into two parts. So… welcome to part one of NYFW F/W 2017!
First off I would like to start out by thanking all the amazing designers and brands who invited me to be part of their shows/events.
I absolutely LOVE fashion week and I love getting to see everyone’s art work. I know some people may not agree with me about my love for NYFW but I honestly do love it. Yes, I do get very exhausted and yes, I do spend a lot of money on ubers/lyfts (cough cough… Obvi not sponsored) but it’s also a time that brings me back to one of the reasons why I became involved in fashion. I majored in fashion design and I participated in my own fashion show. My senior year show, till this day, maybe the most rewarding moment of my life. So to watch these designers’ work glide down the runway and to see how every designer customizes their show is very special to me. I love seeing the designer come out afterwards because I remember that feeling of accomplishment. Sure, my collection was just 5 pieces but STILL. It was my proudest moment and I can only imagine how they feel. Anyways, enough about me… Fashion week is about the clothes, the beauty, the artists themselves and that’s what we all need to remember.
Other reasons why I love fashion week are that I get to see my friends at fun events all over the city. Between running a business, traveling, blogging… sometimes it’s hard to catch up with everyone but that’s why NYFW is so great because it really does bring people together. I love meeting new people at parties and seeing old friends. That being said, it’s so important to surround yourself with uplifting people. Not everyone is going to be great to see but that’s when you have to smile and just save your effort for the people who deserve it 🙂
Another reason (and the last for now) why I love NYFW is the street style. Yes, fashion week is about the designers but I am not going to lie and say that I don’t enjoy seeing the styles on the streets. I do! Its really amazing to see how creative people get and how they style different designers/brands together to express their own personal style. Although, what I do get annoyed of is when people who aren’t “famous” wear very interesting outfits but don’t get credit. Like, if you look at everyone’s street style pictures you’re always going to find the same people… What about the other hundreds of people who go to the shows? I want to see what they are wearing too! But anyways, fashion week is a great time for style inspo as well and I have blast watching the streets fill up with some of the most amazing fashionistas in the world.
Now, this isn’t to say there aren’t pitfalls to NYFW… because trust me, there are. From social climbers, blistered feet, expensive cabs, to catty cliques.., NYFW is full of people who think they own the world and are entitled to everything but those are the people you just have to shrug off because fashion week isn’t about them. No matter how many ‘followers’ they have, we’re all in the same place and there for the same reason- fashion! As for the feet and ubers… Those are just things we have to deal with too haha.
Anyways, I have included my first 3 looks from the week along with some photos from some of the shows I got to attend! If you want to stay up to date with fashion week and see all my favorite pieces, follow along next time on Insta Story! I love posting all my favorites on there too. Thank you again for everyone who invited me and for everyone who contributed to my looks!
Huge shout-out to my girls @colormecourtney and @mimosasmanhattan– for always keeping it real. I always have a great time with y’all 🙂 Def go check out their NYFW blog posts to get more of this seasons low down!
In the wise words of Ellen… Be kind to one another 🙂
xx
